Absentee Voting

Vote safely and securely from the comfort of your home by applying to vote by mail in the June 23rd primary.

Unlike previous years, every voter is able to vote absentee due to the current COVID-19 pandemic. You can apply to vote by mail online by clicking the button allow to visit the NYC BOE website or follow the instructions after the button in order to get placed on the NYC absentee voter list:

How to Apply

  • Either complete the NYC BOE form at the above button or wait until you receive your application in the mail. The Board of Elections will be sending out absentee ballot applications the second week of May.

  • Use the reason “Temporary Illness” as the reason for requesting an absentee ballot. This is allowable under an Executive Order by the Governor for all voters.

  • Return your request for an absentee ballot before June 16th in order to qualify to vote absentee for the June 23rd primary.

How to Vote

  • Ballots will begin to get mailed out later this month.

  • Once you receive your ballot, fill it out quickly, and place the ballot in the provided small envelope.

  • Make sure you sign and date the outside of the envelope in the provided areas.

  • Place signed and dated envelope inside the larger envelope addressed to the Board of Elections. 

  • Mail envelope back to the Board of Elections.

  • All ballots must be postmarked by June 22nd and received by the Board of Elections no later than June 30th.

After registering to vote, please follow the instructions to register to vote absentee so you are eligible to be mailed a ballot.

  • You can also request a voter registration application be sent to you by mail by either calling 1-866-VOTE-NYC (1-866-868-3692) or emailing the NYC BOE at vote@boe.nyc.ny.us with your borough - Bronx or Manhattan - in the subject line and your mailing address in the body.

  • The deadline to register to vote is May 29th, 2020.
