On Earth Day, National and State Environmental Leaders Back Congressman Espaillat for Re-Election

Environmental advocates endorse Espaillat as he fights Trump’s environmental rollbacks and pushes bold progressive climate action

Congressman Espaillat: “While Donald Trump and his allies try to gut environmental protections and empower polluters, we’re fighting for bold progressive climate action.”

NEW YORK, NY — Today, on Earth Day, the League of Conservation Voters and SEEC PAC, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition Political Action Committee, endorsed Congressman Adriano Espaillat for re-election, backing his record of fighting for bold progressive climate action, environmental justice, and modern, sustainable infrastructure that cuts pollution, reduces congestion, and builds a cleaner future.

As Donald Trump and his allies decimate environmental protections and carve out regulatory favors for polluters, environmental leaders are rallying behind Espaillat’s re-election campaign.

In a statement,
Craig Auster, Vice President of Political Affairs, League of Conservation Voters Action Fund said: “Congressman Espaillat has led the fight for environmental justice and for the policies and investments needed to build a cleaner, healthier future. He understands that climate action is inseparable from public health, cleaner air, and protecting the communities that too often bear the greatest burden of pollution. We urge voters in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx to send Adriano back to Congress.”

In a statement,
SEEC PAC Chair Rep. Nikki Budzinski said: “Congressman Espaillat has been a steadfast voice for climate action, environmental justice, and the federal investments needed to confront the climate crisis. He has fought for policies that reduce pollution, strengthen infrastructure, and move our communities toward a clean energy future. SEEC PAC is proud to endorse Adriano for re-election because we need him in the fight.”

Congressman Adriano Espaillat said: “I’m honored to have the support of the League of Conservation Voters and SEEC PAC on Earth Day. While Donald Trump and his allies try to gut environmental protections and empower polluters, we’re fighting for bold progressive climate action. I’ll keep pushing for cleaner air, modern transportation, clean energy expansion, and good-paying union jobs, so we build a more just and sustainable future for every New Yorker.”

Espaillat’s record on climate and environmental justice, and his fearlessness in taking on the Trump Administration’s policies of climate denial is why leading environmental advocates are throwing their full support behind his re-election campaign on Earth Day. Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress have advanced an anti-climate agenda attacking environmental protections, and siding with polluters over public health and sustainable communities.Espaillat has fought back with bold progressive climate initiatives and proposals that center working people and tackle climate change head on.

In Congress, he’s worked to expand clean and affordable energy, cut greenhouse gas emissions, and protect clean air and water. He introduced a comprehensive package of climate legislation focused on climate finance, disaster housing, e-waste, and recycling infrastructure to help build healthier, more sustainable communities and strengthen America’s leadership in the fight against the climate crisis.

Espaillat also helped secure critical investments through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to rapidly expand New York City’s electric school bus fleet from roughly 45 buses to more than 180. Those investments are helping to cut emissions and deliver cleaner air for New York families.

As one of the most vocal champions of constructing Second Avenue Subway Phase 2, Espaillat helped deliver the federal funding needed to move the project forward. And he held the Trump Administration accountable to providing the funding that was promised, defeating their efforts to obstruct the transit modernization New Yorkers in Upper Manhattan and the Bronx were told for too long to wait for.

With the Second Avenue Subway project moving forward, transit service for NY-13 residents will be made faster, more reliable, and better able to connect all New Yorkers to jobs, schools, and opportunity, while reducing congestion and improving air quality. In total, the infrastructure investments Espaillat has brought back to the district will create family-sustaining, union jobs to move New York into the clean energy future, and ensure the communities he represents aren’t left behind.

The endorsements from the League of Conservation Voters and SEEC PAC adds to the growing coalition of progressive leaders, advocates, and labor unions supporting Espaillat’s re-election campaign, which includes:
